THE ACADEMY
An Ontario independent school inspected by the Ministry of Education, the Academy was established in 2011 and operates for high school students grades 9 to 12.

Experience a unique opportunity to earn high school credit during a 14-day voyage on a sail training vessel. This immersive program totals 110 hours, with coursework, homework, and assignments integrated into the sailing experience. A qualified teacher will be aboard to deliver high-quality instruction and support, ensuring a personalized learning environment.

Throughout the voyage, you’ll complete all assignments on the ship, with mid-term and final grades contributing directly to your post-secondary education. This hands-on approach not only enriches your sailing adventure but also allows you to gain valuable skills and knowledge in a practical setting, making it an exceptional way to earn credit while experiencing life at sea.

BBA Educators come from diverse backgrounds & experiences teaching in alternative classroom. They are supported by the crew aboard the ship to ensure the delivery of our courses. All our crew a keen interest in Tall Ship Sailing.
Bytown Brigantine Academy is the only sail training organization in Ontario that offers the option of earning a high school credit as part of their voyages.

BBA course offered include: Leadership (GPP3O), Healthy Active Living (PAQ3O), and Integrated Arts (ALC10/ALC20).
SV Fair Jeanne 14 day voyages provide opportunities to earn a high school credit.

LEARNING WHILE YOU SAIL!
Students can engage in experiential learning, where they apply classroom knowledge in real-world situations. This hands-on approach enhances understanding and retention of concepts. The voyage focuses on teamwork and leadership skills, crucial for personal and academic growth. Participants will learn to work collaboratively, take on responsibilities, and develop confidence in their abilities. By participating in shipboard tasks, students gain practical skills that are valuable in future employment, particularly in the maritime industry.
