Black Jack Island Adventure Camp Weekend Program

The following text describes how a weekend tall ship sail training weekend would unfold for your group or corporate team building exercise. The Black Jack can accommodate approximately 15 to 20 people. For all the details, please call the Bytown Brigantine office at 613-596-6258.

Friday

Sunset on Alexandria Island.1830 Participants arrive at the public dock in Quyon Quebec and are signed in by the ships crew. All personal gear is transferred into dry bags supplied by the Black Jack program.

A rainbow over the bunk barge tied up alongside Alexandria Island.Participants take part in a short ice breaker game and then load all their gear into one of the two Navy Whalers. The participants make their way to Alexandria Island where they will call home for the next couple of days.

Crew will take them on a tour of the island, show them how to use the marine heads and then everyone will head to the camp fire where evening snacks will take place and an overview for the day to come.

Lights out around 2230hrs.

Saturday

0700 hrsAll hands are woken up. Everyone gets ready for the new day. Galley watch heads to the galley to help out and everyone else lends a hand to tidy everything up.

0800hrs all hands to colours

The raising of the flag and the signing of the national anthem. Captain or program coordinator will explain how the day will unfold.

0815hrs all hands to breakfast

Everyone will pile into the Stanley Carson Bunk for breakfast.

Building a raft out of materials at hand.     Sailing on the Ottawa RiverAfter breakfast the morning activity will take place which is either sailing on Black Jack or the whalers, participating in a wide game on the island.

Black Jack on the Ottawa River.The group will more than likely get back together for lunch. After clean up the afternoon activity will take place. This will more than likely be more sailing with particular attention paid to learning new skills such as navigation, rope work or sailing terminology.

1830 will be dinner

After clean up there will be a wide game on the island and then a snack over the camp fire.

2230 lights out.

Sunday

0700hrs Wake up and pack up all gear. Everything will be cleaned up and loaded into one of the whalers or the Black Jack.

Everyone will pile into the Stanley Carson Bunk for breakfast.

After breakfast and clean up everyone will go sailing for the morning. The Captain will host the Tall Ship Olympics where each watch will be able to demonstrate the skills they have acquired while sailing the previous day.

Lunch will be out on the water as the Black Jack makes her way to the place of debarkation at Pihney’s Point, Quyon or Britannia Yacht Club.

The program will finish at about 1600hrs. This time is flexible and can be changed should the program require it.
